The Girls of Nashville is an organization created to celebrate the community of female songwriters and artists in Nashville, Tenn. Founded by hit songwriters Heather Morgan, Mags Duval and Caitlyn Smith. GON began in 2014 as a seasonal songwriters' night featuring females from all genres. The idea began one night as the founders chatted after a show where they had performed. "The sound engineer approached us and shared how much fun it had been to have a night full of female talent," explains Duval. "It got our wheels turning...we started making a list of all of our talented friends who can sing and who can write, and we just thought - how are you not hearing all of these women play?" From that list, the girls found a venue and date, and asked 17 of their favorite writers to join them for a girls' night. Unexpectedly, 14 of the 17 showed up to a sold out show. "The coolest part about the evening was this extra layer of unplanned moments," notes Morgan. "And that's really the magic of Girls of Nashville, and something we have successfully kept through every show all these years later. We don't know what is going to happen, but we know it's going to be a night unlike any other." And so emerged The Girls of Nashville: a writers' night to benefit local rotating charities, held at Nashville's City Winery several times a year. Every sold out show features 9-12 women performing two songs each, accompanied by a house band. Ranging from traditional country to gospel to pop, no show is the same - but that magical sense of camaraderie and celebration they created the first night is ever- present. Nine years later, this tradition stands strong, led by Duval and Morgan with special guest hosts.
