Cindy Alter & Friends
City Winery Nashville presents Cindy Alter & Friends on Sunday, November 2nd at 7:00pm.
Cindy Alter is a living, breathing embodiment of what it means to rise strong. Her story is not just one of musical success, its about daring greatly, falling hard, and choosing to stand back up with a guitar in one hand and grace in the other.
She was the frontwoman of Clout, an all-female band, whose songs are still played on radio today, selling over 14 million albums, selling out stadiums across Europe and South Africa, sharing stages with all the heavy hitters in the 70’s & 80’s, hitting #1 in numerous countries, #2 in the UK and charting in the USA Billboard Top 100.
After Clout disbanded, Cindy formed Zia, one of the first multi-cultural bands in South Africa, touring France and Africa, and opening for the Bee Gee’s in Paris. She navigated the murky waters of reinvention, moved to Los Angeles and found her feet as a singer-songwriter, opening for Kenny Loggins, Sophie B. Hawkins, Olivia Newton-John, Clint Black and others.
Cindy traveled back and forth to Nashville and decided to move there, but was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, that could have silenced her, but she fought with courage, and returned with her soul intact. That is not just resilience, that is wholehearted living.
As a songwriter in South Africa, Cindy has had 4 #1 hits and written songs for Clout, which featured on their albums.
Here and now, her dream of living in Nashville realized, she is part of the songwriting community, she tells her story, through her music and her memoir, “No Substitute” and you don’t just hear her. You feel her. She shows us what it means to own your story, to love yourself through the process, and reminds us that creativity and courage walk hand in hand. Cindy has played various venues around Nashville, including City Winery, where she will be showcasing her music on November 2nd.
She is not just a musician. She is a storyteller, a survivor, a truth-teller – proof that showing up authentically, scars, stories and all, is the bravest thing we will ever do.
Cindy released her 14th album in 2024, an EP titled “ Renegades & Vagabonds”, 7 spectacular new songs, beautifully produced and recorded in Nashville, with local and South African musicians.
