The Formation of Iron Horse Bluegrass
Iron Horse was formed in Killen, Alabama a relative part of the Tri-Cities area which includes Florence, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals. This area is renowned for its varied and rich musical heritage. The band’s founding members include Tony Robertson on mandolin, Ricky Rogers on bass, Vance Henry on guitar, and Anthony Richardson on banjo. Each member brings their own musical backgrounds and talents, as well as experiences to create a unique blend of musical experience for the listener.
The Unique Style of Iron Horse Bluegrass
Iron Horse Bluegrass has developed a unique progressive Southern style and an innate, artistic skill for transposing contemporary music to traditional bluegrass. Iron Horse Bluegrass has accomplished such wildly received projects that even several of the original artist have reached out to say that it sounds like the way the song should have been performed in the beginning. Their sound combines intricate instrumentation, tight harmonies, and an appreciation of the roots that first brought them all to bluegrass as teenagers.
Featuring Vance Henry (guitarist) and Tony Robertson (mandolin) on lead vocals and high tenor, Ricky Rogers (bass) singing baritone, and Anthony Richardson (banjo) singing bass and baritone, the distinctive sound of Iron Horse has become a globally recognized band. With their musical style appealing to a broader audience, they have had their songs featured as bumper music for news stations, to wake up astronauts on the Space Station, and used by a popular television show.
