An Evening with Andrew Duhon with Jake & Shelby
City Winery Nashville Presents An Evening w/Andrew Duhon with Jake & Shelby live in concert on August 1st at 7:30pm
It was Leo Tolstoy who said “All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on ajourney or a stranger comes to town,” and in the case of Andrew Duhon and his latest album Emerald Blue, both instances are true. Duhon temporarily left New Orleans, his longtimehome and musical muse in 2019, finding himself inspired by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest and notably, its colors —a hue he describes as ‘emerald blue’ for which the album is named, the same shade looking back at him in his partner’s eyes. Had he overlooked the specific shade of her eyes while living below sea level? Or did the change of location open his mind more acutely? The record does just that: examine the familiar in the context of the unfamiliar. Emerald Blue is a probing appreciation of the dailiness of life; a note-taking exercise in living.
Jake & Shelby are a captivating pop singer/songwriter duo whose star is seriously on the rise. Smooth vocals and intricate guitar arrangements blend perfectly with an endearing and intriguing chemistry that garnered them over 1.5M followers and 11 million streams.
At just 18 and 20 years old, their organic sound is fresh with wonder, while simultaneously they are musically mature beyond their years. Pulling inspiration from the likes of Gracie Abrams, Norah Jones, John Mayer, Madison Cunningham, and Phoebe Bridgers, Jake & Shelby’s songs are equally powerful and inspiring. What started as a few simple social posts, has led to a global fan base.
Celebrities are also taking note. They garnered the attention of one of their musical heroes, Michael Bublé, who dueted with them on social media platforms and invited them to sing with him backstage before his show at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. Kim Kardashian recently asked them to record a special birthday song to her sister, Khloe, on Instagram saying, “Khloe and I are such big fans. Thank you Jake & Shelby for making Khloe’s bday extra special. We love you.” While the video was just a gift they made for the megastar’s astonishing personal request - Jake and Shelby were pleasantly shocked when Kardashian posted their performance on her socials.
It’s real. It’s authentic. “We just knew when we started singing together that it felt right,” says the duo. They weave together effortlessly. It’s presented with passion in their new E.P. called “Just Us”.
The title of the new project sums it all up, showcasing the refreshing simplicity that started their career. When asked about the inspiration behind the E.P, without hesitation they replied, “We wanted to capture this moment in our lives.” The six original songs were all recorded in the same way that their fans fell in love with them. Two voices and one guitar. Tracks like “Sweet” sing of everything in life being sweeter when you’re with the one you love. “Girl I’ll Be Tomorrow” is an anthemic honest place of wishing who you can be tomorrow while having grace for who you are today. The line “Long live the little things” stands out in “Oh What A Dream” - as they lyrically paint the joys of finding the true beauty of life in the “in-betweens” and in the “right here, right now.” Steaming now on all platforms.
